It might be a difficult task but it's not, actually. I will guide you what to pay attention on and start looking at the right clothes.
Don't think too much about it. Read the following tips and choose up to three outfits you like. This can help you to narrow down your choices.
Family outfit guidelines. Dubai family photoshoot.
1. Clothing ideas
Keep it comfortable: Choose clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in. Avoid anything too tight or restrictive. Otherwise it will irritate you and you need to feel relaxed and enjoy the process, right?
Coordinated colors: Coordinate your outfit colors with your family members. You don't have to wear matching outfits, but choosing colors that complement each other can make a big difference.
Layers and textures: Adding layers and textures to your outfit can add depth and interest to the photos. Think about adding a scarf, jacket or hat.
Avoid logos and writings: Avoid wearing clothes with logos or large patterns, as they can be distracting. Keep it as simple as possible.
Neutral colors: Neutral colors like white, beige, creamy, and grey can create a classic and timeless look in photos. Blue and ochre colors are also a nice combination.
Add pops of color: Add a pop of color to your outfit to add interest to the photos. You can do this with accessories like a colorful scarf, earrings, hat or necklace.
Consider the setting: Consider your home's colors and style when choosing your outfit. You want your outfit to complement the setting. Is it your home? Look around and see what colors surround you. Is it outdoors? Beach, park, or your backyard?
Be yourself. The last but most important piece of advice! Wear clothes that reflect your personal style and make your family feel comfortable.
2. Makeup and Hair
Keep it simple and natural.
Opt for light makeup that enhances your features without overpowering them. Avoid anything overly shiny or dramatic. I know you might’ve heard that bold makeup is a must for photoshoots, but I disagree. The camera captures your true self, and that’s what matters most. It reminds me of my wedding morning back in 2011 when my makeup artist insisted on fake lashes and extra mascara. I had to ask her to take them off because, deep down, I knew it wasn’t me. I wanted to see my face, not a version of someone else’s.
Hair
Stick to a style that feels like you—neat and simple works best. Slightly tousled hair can also add a nice, effortless touch. If you’re unsure, hiring a professional hairstylist or makeup artist might help. The kids should also look natural, don't make them wear perfect hairstyle and don't have the hair cut just before the photoshoot.
Nails
Give your nails a little love beforehand. Whether you trim them or go for a soft manicure, keep them looking clean and polished. Subtle shades like pastels or neutral tones are perfect—they bring a touch of elegance without being distracting.
3. Skin Prep
Take care of your skin the day before by moisturizing and avoiding any new skincare products that could irritate.
If your session is in the morning, aim for a good night’s rest and drink plenty of water the day before. The best prep is to relax and ease into it. Read something comforting before bed, clear your mind, and wake up feeling refreshed with the thought of a new, exciting day ahead. Put your kids to bed earlier and let them have a good rest.
4. Bringing Personal Touches
Bring along anything that feels like “you”—a scarf, your favorite book, a simple bracelet, or a cherished mug. Encourage kids to bring their favourite toys, things they are attached to. These small, meaningful items can add a cozy and authentic feel to the photos.
5. Mindset
The best way to prepare as a family is to keep things relaxed and easy. Try to rest the day before, especially if you have little ones, so everyone feels refreshed.
This session is about celebrating your family just as you are. It’s not about being picture-perfect—it’s about capturing your connection, love, and unique story. The best photos often come from natural, candid moments: shared laughter, a gentle hug, or even a bit of playful chaos.
Don’t stress about making everything “just right.” Focus on being together and enjoying the time as a family. If you have specific ideas or moments you’d like captured, let me know in advance, and we’ll work them in naturally.
We’re not aiming for stiff, posed portraits. Instead, we’ll create a comfortable atmosphere where everyone can be themselves. Whether it’s a child’s curious gaze, a whispered joke, or a spontaneous dance, these real moments are what truly make family photos special.
This isn’t just about photos—it’s about preserving a chapter in your family’s story. Let’s create images that reflect your personalities, connections, and love for each other in an authentic, beautiful way.
Color palette movie inspiration.
Do you like to watch movies?
If so, next time while watching any movie start noticing outfits the actors wear. The colour theme. Anything that you like or speaks to you? Do you have similar colors in your wardrobe?
You might want to take an idea from there. :)
I will share some of the movies I like to rewatch and get inspiration from. I mean, color themes and how they match it with an environment. It's not about the style (although there are good examples) but more about the combination of colours. Have a look.
The movies that I use here as an example are:
"Tree of life" 2011, by Terrence Malick
Becoming Jane" 2007, by Julian Jarrold
"Pride and Prejudice", 2005, by Joe Wright
"Atonement", 2007, by Joe Wright
